In this virtual presentation, we will review how the COVID-19 epidemic emerged in New York state, how our scientific understanding and policies developed to the present day, and what we might expect for the remainder of 2021. Following the presentation, we will have an open question-and-answer period with Dr. Eli Rosenberg.

An Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University at Albany School of Public Health, Dr. Rosenberg specializes in the epidemiology of infectious diseases. Since the outset of the pandemic, he has worked closely with the New York State Department of Health on activities and studies addressing critical aspects of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, surveillance, prevention, and treatment.
  • Insight into the March 2020 emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic in New York along with some of the top concerns, tools, policies, and unknowns that were relevant for addressing the epidemic during that spring
  • Ways in which the science and policies related to COVID-19 treatment and control continue to evolve during 2021
  • How to interpret the current state of the COVID-19 epidemic
  • What we might expect in terms of the course of the epidemic, permitted activities, and a return to pre-pandemic conditions in the wake of increased vaccination coverage as well as new strains of the coronavirus
