There are no exceptions to the following requirements:
- To attend the online summer program, you must be between 15 and 19 years of age when you start your class.
- You must have completed your sophomore year of high school (grade 10 or the international equivalent) when you start your class.
- You may not be an admitted Cornell undergraduate entering the university this Fall.
- You must have the demonstrated academic ability, maturity, and intellectual curiosity necessary to undertake college-level work.
- You must meet all stated course prerequisites. Before applying, review the instructions for how to select your course and check your course for any specific eligibility requirements.
- All Cornell students, including precollege students, must have a strong command of the English language to be successful in their engagement in university studies. This is a requirement for enrollment at Cornell. Visit English Language Proficiency requirements to learn about minimum scores and related information.
You must have completed your sophomore year (grade 10 or the international equivalent) and be preparing to enter, or already in, your junior year when you start your class.
You must have completed your junior year (grade 11 or the international equivalent) and be preparing to enter, or already in, your senior year when you start your class.
You must be able to attend your class in its entirety. Please remember that the content of Cornell’s three- and six-week summer courses is equivalent to that of courses offered during the university’s fifteen-week fall or spring semesters. Thus, missing any class time during the summer can put you in serious academic jeopardy. See class attendance requirements.
“My online course was AWESOME! The professor was very easy to reach out to for help. Her video lectures were clear and a great resource. The course provided transferrable skills that I can put on my resume.”
“The class was very interesting and while it was condensed to three weeks, it was still very informative without being too heavy. The fact it was online made it very appealing for me since I am an international student and, even though I’m not a a Cornell University student, I had the great opportunity to learn from the university.”

Online Summer Courses
- Most online courses are delivered via the web-based learning system Canvas. Generally, you’ll interact with the instructor and other students via email, discussion boards, interactive chat rooms, video conferences, and/or phone.
- Some classes are offered synchronously (live and on a predetermined schedule) while others are asynchronous (pre-recorded and on your own schedule).
- The grades and credits you earn will be recorded on an official Cornell transcript and can generally be applied toward an undergraduate degree at Cornell or another school, at that institution’s discretion.
- You’ll be able to choose from three- and six-week sessions. You’ll be on a fast-paced schedule, learning 15 weeks of college coursework in a condensed period.
