Depression is one of the most urgent mental health challenges facing modern society. While scientists have generally assumed that the prognosis for well-being is poor among those with depression, Cornell-led research is now challenging this assumption: In national datasets, a substantial group of people who had a diagnosis of depression go on to report well-being, including lives rich with positive emotion, purpose, and meaning.
