Fostering an environment of inclusion takes time and energy, both of which are a leader’s most precious commodities. But organizational leaders need to prioritize cultivating diverse and inclusive workplace teams if they want to enhance their employees’ experiences and improve business outcomes. Only with the full support of leadership will individual workers truly believe they are being treated fairly and respectfully, giving them a real sense of belonging.
Strong inclusive leaders derive energy and success from their entrenched values, a deep-seated need for fairness, and a compelling sense of personal responsibility for change. By consistently demonstrating courage, cognizance of biases, curiosity, cultural intelligence, and openness to collaboration, inclusive leaders invest in people, shape their organizational culture, and inspire others.
