Event Overview

Public speaking is one of the most important skills a student can develop early in their academic journey. The essential ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently shapes career choices as diverse as engineering, medicine, law, the arts, and public policy.

Public speaking is not just restricted to the stage or podium; it is embedded in the everyday and encompasses ordinary communication like participating in discussions, presenting projects, pitching ideas, interacting with clients, and leading a team.

Starting public speaking early allows a student to build confidence and get ready for their career. It also enhances critical thinking, persuasion, and active listening - skills that are crucial both for personal and professional development. In an age shaped by constant presence of social media and artificial intelligence, technical qualifications alone are no longer sufficient to stand out in today’s competitive job market.

Join Dr. Swasti Pachauri from the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy for an engaging discussion about public speaking as a lifelong asset. She’ll discuss how developing this essential skill during undergraduate life creates a foundation for self-advocacy and success, preparing students to be not just job ready, but future ready.
