Event Overview

The challenges of teaching during a pandemic have become starkly apparent — a tangle of in-person, hybrid, and remote teaching models; many children and families without the resources to adapt to constant change; and confusion over health and safety protocols — leaving the nation’s more than 3 million teachers with no roadmap for the challenging times ahead. Join us for this conversation between Alex Colvin, labor scholar and Dean of Cornell’s ILR School, and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, who will discuss how experiences brought on or exacerbated by the pandemic will shape the teaching profession going forward.

Given the change in political leadership in the United States, the world of work is poised to undergo significant changes. “The Future of Work: Labor in America,” a multi-episode series, will probe huge shifts surrounding labor policy, worker activism, and employer practices. Alex Colvin, Dean of Cornell University’s ILR School, the world’s preeminent academic institution focused on work, labor, and employment, will lead discussions with senior government officials, organizational leaders, journalists, and workers leading national change that will impact the future for generations to come.
