The global economy relies heavily on healthy coastal and ocean resources for diverse industries such as fishing, tourism and recreation, minerals, and transportation. Nearly one out of every six jobs in the U.S. depends on the blue economy, while fish protein is an essential part of diets in coastal communities around the world. Moreover, the ocean plays a central role in regulating the Earth's climate but is often overlooked in conversations about climate change. Pragmatic development of a blue economy is necessary to ensure a sustainable ocean industry and food source for current and future generations. This virtual discussion will focus on the current state of the ocean and the importance of maintaining a healthy ocean for the prosperity of both business and planet.
A distinguished panel representing multiple stakeholders of the blue economy will explore how they interact with the ocean and help create a more robust and resilient food system. This webinar is hosted by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise in collaboration with the Cornell Sustainability Consulting club as part of their annual Cornell Business Impact Symposium.
