Cheap, trendy clothes that consumers demand then discard after a few wears make the fashion industry the second-largest polluter in the world. Fast fashion is infamous for poor working conditions, poverty wages, and its enormous environmental impact surrounding freshwater usage and textile waste. This panel will examine critical issues in the fashion supply chain, such as transparency, sourcing, waste, and hazardous practices. We will explore the immense toll fast fashion has taken on the environment and the ways in which these practices can be improved. Finally, we will look beyond the clothes to get a better understanding of the conditions endured to meet our ongoing demand.
Panelists will offer insight into how their organizations are navigating these issues in the clothing industry and touch upon our role, as customers, in perpetuating the hyperconsumerism which has allowed fast fashion to flourish.
This webinar is hosted by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise in collaboration with the Global Network Club as part of their annual Cornell Business Impact Symposium.
