What exactly is minerality in wine? Some taste it, some smell it. Others even say they know it when they “see” it. And everyone these days seems to be talking about it.
In this webcast, you’ll explore the mineral characteristic of wine from the viewpoints of three experts: an enologist, or wine scientist; a sommelier; and a wine judge. Although the terms “mineral” and “minerality” are often used as wine descriptors, there is much debate over whether it indicates aromas and flavors of wet stones, salinity, and gravel — or simply a lack of aromas and flavors. Is it a palate sensation, like high acid? Or is it attributable to winemaking technique? Can we actually taste the soil in these wines?
