Ernest Hemingway once wrote, “You shouldn’t write if you can’t write.” In the age of ChatGPT and AI, however, anyone may pass as a poet, playwright, or screenwriter; one simply needs to enter prompts and out pops a tangible piece of work. Yet turning that output into a masterpiece — like living, breathing human writing — is a different story. It can be even more challenging when we’re dealing with our own stories or when we have a personal connection to the thing about which we’re writing. In the end, nothing can substitute the human element of storytelling.

Join Christopher Byrne, a senior lecturer in the Department of Communication at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, as he describes why using ChatGPT is only the first step to becoming a great storyteller. Professor Byrne will help us understand how using AI can help us be better storytellers.
