The Climate Change Comedy Hour
Using Humor to Become a More Effective Activist
Thursday, November 02, 2023, 5:15pm EDT
Event Overview
We’ve reached a new point in environmental awareness: Now that many people understand that climate change is happening, a critical goal is to help people cope with their feelings of concern and despair in the face of climate realities. Fortunately, dark comedy has a long track record of helping people confront formidable challenges.
Join us for a multimedia presentation featuring Aaron Sachs, Professor of History at the Cornell College of Arts & Sciences and author of “Stay Cool: Why Dark Comedy Matters in the Fight Against Climate Change” (April 2023, NYU Press). Professor Sachs will use a combination of gallows humor, history, and silly videos to show how we can shift our attitude about climate change and how that shift might help us reach the next stage of climate activism.
