Zalaznick Reading Series I
At Home With Poet Michael Prior
Thursday, September 24, 2020, 7pm EDT
Event Overview
Each semester, writers ranging from debut poets to internationally renowned authors visit the Cornell campus as part of the Barbara & David Zalaznick Reading Series. Hosted by the Creative Writing Program, this series has educated and entertained students and the broader Cornell community alike. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fall 2020 edition of the series has gone virtual. From the intimacy of their homes to ours, a lineup of renowned writers will share their work.
First up is poet, professor, and Cornell alumnus Michael Prior, who will read from his magnificent new collection, “Burning Province.” Described by the publisher as “acerbic, moving, and formally astonishing,” the collection navigates “geographical and psychological landscapes, grappling with cultural trauma and mapping out complex topographies of grief, love, and inheritance.” “Burning Province” is Prior’s second collection of poetry. His first, 2016’s “Model Disciple,” was named one of the best books of the year by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Prior’s work has also appeared in a wide range of magazines and anthologies on both sides of the Atlantic.
