For over a decade, Daniel Murphy has collaborated with civil society, industry, and government to advance decent labor practices in the fishing and seafood sectors. With a background in investigations, research, and advocacy, Mr. Murphy has worked to build an understanding of forced labor in Thailand’s fisheries; in particular, promoting evidence-based policymaking and helping to secure better enforcement outcomes. He is a Thai speaker and holds a postgraduate degree in Migration Studies.
More recently, Mr. Murphy has focused on the state-imposed forced labor of ethnic minorities in China, helping to expose Uyghur forced labor in the Chinese seafood processing sector. His work has been published in The New Yorker, Politico, Le Monde, Sky News, The Globe and Mail, and other media outlets, as well as by civil society outfits such as Human Rights Watch, Greenpeace, and Environmental Justice Foundation.
