Karl A. Pillemer, Ph.D., is the Hazel Reed Professor of Human Development at Cornell University and a Professor of Gerontology in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. An internationally renowned family sociologist and gerontologist, Dr. Pillemer’s research examines how individuals and their families develop and change throughout their lives. Over the past ten years, he has been conducting a program of research on the topic of family estrangement and reconciliation, which led to his book “Fault Lines: Fractured Families and How to Mend Them” (Avery, 2020). The author of five other books and over 200 scientific publications, Dr. Pillemer speaks throughout the world on family issues.
Dr. Pillemer also created the Cornell Legacy Project, which is dedicated to finding out what older people know about life that the rest of us don’t. This project led to two books: “30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans” and “30 Lessons for Loving: Advice from the Wisest Americans on Love, Relationships, and Marriage.”
