Responsible Leadership

Sarah Kreps is the John L. Wetherill Professor in the Department of Government, Adjunct Professor of Law, and the Director of the Cornell Brooks School Tech Policy Institute. Her research focuses on the intersection of technology, national security, and public policy.

She has written eight books, including the forthcoming book: Harnessing Disruption: Building the Tech Future without Breaking Society (Oxford University Press). Beyond these books, Professor Kreps’ work has appeared in a number of academic journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Science Advances, American Political Science Review, World Politics, International Security, and Journal of Cybersecurity, policy journals such as Foreign Affairs, and media outlets such as CNN, the BBC, New York Times, and Washington Post.

Professor Kreps is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and has held fellowships at the Council on Foreign Relations (and is a life member), Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, West Point, and the University of Virginia’s Miller Center for Public Affairs.

Professor Kreps received her undergraduate degree from Harvard, a master’s from Oxford and her Ph.D. from Georgetown. She served as an active-duty officer in the United States Air Force from 1999-2003.

Three-time entrepreneur, lifelong investor, and now operator, John Wu is the president of Ava Labs, a software services company behind the Layer 1 blockchain Avalanche. In this role, he leads commercial and product teams building tools for technology, finance, consumer, and gaming verticals to develop blockchain-based solutions.

Mr. Wu has over 20 years of experience as a fintech executive and technology investor running Sureview Capital, a global hedge fund backed by the Blackstone Group, and previously managing a global technology portfolio at Kingdon Capital. He began his investment career at Tiger Management.

With a B.S. from Cornell and an MBA from Harvard, Mr. Wu enjoys working with his alma maters, mentoring the next generation of builders. He is an advisor to the Cornell Blockchain Club and regularly supports students through his family scholarship trust.

Andrew Chin is Head of Investment Solutions and Sciences and a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. In this leadership role, he oversees the research, management and strategic growth of the firm’s strategic asset allocation, data science, indexing and custom beta businesses. Previously, Chin was the head of quantitative research and chief data scientist. In that capacity, he was responsible for optimizing the quantitative research infrastructure, tools and resources across the firm’s investing platforms.

In 2015, Chin created and has since led the firm’s data science strategy to harness big data and leverage machine learning techniques to improve decision-making across the organization. From 2009 to 2021, he was the firm’s chief risk officer, where, in addition to his quantitative research responsibilities, he led all aspects of risk management and built a global team to identify, manage and mitigate the various risks across the organization. Chin has held various leadership roles in quantitative research, risk management and portfolio management in New York and London since joining the firm in 1997. Before joining AB, he spent three years as a project manager and business analyst in Global Investment Management at Bankers Trust. Chin holds a BA in math and computer science, and an MBA in finance from Cornell University.
