Cornell's First Amendment Clinic in Tumultuous Times

Mark Jackson founded the Cornell First Amendment Clinic following his role as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Dow Jones & Company, publisher of The Wall Street Journal. Previously, he served as Associate General Counsel at HarperCollins Publishers and, before that, spent 12 years at the New York law firm Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Lehrer, first as a litigation associate and later as partner. There, Professor Jackson represented major media clients — including motion picture studios, television stations, and print publishers — conducting pre-publication and pre-broadcast review and handling litigation.

Michael C. Dorf is one of the nation’s leading constitutional law scholars. A prolific author, he has written or co-written more than 100 scholarly articles and several influential books, including “On Reading the Constitution with Laurence Tribe” and “No Litmus Test: Law Versus Politics in the 21st Century.” Professor Dorf is also a co-editor of the widely used Choper, et al., “Constitutional Law” casebook.

A professor at Cornell Law School, Professor Dorf writes regularly on law and public affairs for Justia’s Verdict and his widely read blog, “Dorf on Law.” He previously taught at Columbia Law School, where he served as Vice Dean, and clerked for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to his academic work, Professor Dorf maintains an active pro bono practice, frequently authoring amicus briefs in Supreme Court cases.
