In 2009, union favorability in the U.S. hovered around 49%. In 2023, we witnessed massive change as unions enjoyed upwards of a 70% approval rating among Americans. The summer of 2023 reflected that turning tide through strikes in the hotel industry and across many other sectors. Starbucks, for example, organized over 300 units but still does not have a contract. Changes are afoot and more sweeping changes are expected in 2024.

In this Keynote, guest host Professor David Sherwyn and legal executive Keith Grossman will discuss these recent changes in attitudes, activities, and law. They will preview the 2024 labor market and suggest a proposal to improve union/management relations in the hotel industry as well as many other sectors.
  • What big-picture developments in labor relations we can anticipate in 2024
  • How hotel industry leaders are looking at the future of labor and strategies to handle challenges going into the new year
  • How the Biden National Labor Relations Board is addressing these challenges through policy development and implementation
