FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

eCornell offers a wealth of resources to ensure you have an exceptional learning experience. We encourage you to review our New Student Guide and visit our Help Page for additional support and assistance. To learn more about eCornell, we invite you to explore our: eCornell FAQ and eCornell #Impact page, as well as our official eCornell YouTube channel. Please review MassMutual’s eCornell Learner FAQ.

You must have a conversation with your manager about your interest in eCornell and get approval to utilize one (or more) of the courses available (subject to availability).Your manager would then complete the eCornell Request Form and an eCornell program manager will reach out to your manager to confirm selection and next steps.

Courses normally start every two weeks. However, there are some courses (i.e., Python) that start every three weeks. As you enroll, you can choose the start date that works best for you for each of your courses.

Please use your MassMutual e-mail address as this is a unique identifier that Learning & Development uses for reporting purposes.

If you need to reschedule a course, you are able to self-transfer and select a new course start. Changes to start dates, and dropping a course must be made prior to the course starting date. If you need additional assistance, please e-mail ec_helpdesk@cornell.edu.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you reschedule a course and there are subsequent courses you are enrolled in, you must make the Help Desk aware of the dates of the subsequent courses as the Help Desk does not automatically reschedule those courses.

If you fail to complete a course by the course end date, this is called an “incomplete” and the course will need to be taken again. All MassMutual learners receive one free retake enrollment. If you fail to complete more than one course, eCornell will assess a $75 retake fee, which you will be responsible to pay. You can contact eCornell’s Help Desk (ec_helpdesk@ecornell.edu) to pay the fee and reschedule your course.

If the course has not ended but you need more time, you may request an extension from your facilitator. To be eligible for an extension, students must have completed at least 50% of the required assignments, per the grade book, before the end of the course. Once this requirement is met, you may request a 48-hour extension by contacting your facilitator via the Canvas inbox before the end of the course. The 50% threshold can be met by submitting either 50% of the total number of requirements or 50% of the total points, whichever you achieve first.

We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances can prevent the completion of a course. If you find yourself in this situation, there may be an option to ‘reopen’ the course, allowing you to complete any outstanding requirements. Each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. To explore this option, please reach out directly to the Helpdesk and include a copy of your request to your learning consultant at kec24@cornell.edu.
eCornell will provide a date/time prior to learners’ particular course start dates for them to attend their virtual orientation. It is highly recommended that all learners enrolled in an eCornell course attend this orientation. In addition, one learner’s are enrolled in a course, you have access to an online Orientation Course. For more information, please visit the New Student Orientation information page.

“Your eCornell” is an opportunity for those who are interested in paying for their own additional eCornell course using MassMutual’s Operations discount. Please work with your manager or Jill LaBranche & Spencer Uba-Oyibo to learn more.

eCornell program is a stand-alone program housed within Operations and is not part of MassMutual’s Education Reimbursement Program.
