In this session, you’ll get a closer look at these startups’ new technologies and solutions, ranging from soil health and novel crop protection, to better-for-you snack foods free from common allergens. The Grow-NY competition is a prestigious contest that identifies, supports, and funds the best of the best in food and agriculture innovation. This year, 330 high-growth startups entered the competition. Of the 20 finalists chosen to pitch business plans at the Grow-NY Summit Awards Ceremony, only eight walk away as winners, with one taking home a million dollar top prize.

Jay Farmer is the CEO of Ascribe Bioscience, which uses naturally occurring signaling molecules from the soil microbiome to produce a novel class of broad-spectrum, nontoxic biopesticides that prime the plants’ immune systems to enhance resistance to pathogens and increase crop yields.
Jenn Smith’s role with Grow-NY draws on her background in craft beverage market development, most recently as the executive director of the New York Cider Association and the administrative director of the New York State Distillers Guild. She has also served as an NYC-based consultant to entrepreneurs creating value-added products and hospitality ventures. Before that, Ms. Smith was the marketing director of New York’s largest wine and spirits retailer, and earlier in her career she was a director of online community and customer engagement for Citigroup, Bertelsmann, and Time Inc.
Trish Thomas is the co-founder and CEO of Every Body Eat, which makes, markets, and sells delicious food that is free from the most common 14 allergens, corn, and sugar so that people can enjoy it, together, regardless of dietary restrictions or preferences.
